The KEEPERS OF JEWISH EXCELLENCE are a special group of Temple members committed to providing Jewish excellence for both the Temple community and the entire Jewish community.  Contributions to a special KEEPERS OF JEWISH EXCELLENCE FUND enable our congregation to hear and study with speakers and scholars in many fields and provide dynamic scholarship to the entire community.

Cantor Ann West Ott

Ordained in May 1998 from the Academy for Jewish Religion in New York City, has been the Cantor at Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple since July 1999. She had a diverse career in central New Jersey as a singer, pianist, guitarist, educator, and choral director long before she came to the cantorate. Read more...

Rickey Stein

Rickey Stein is one of the founding members of Makhelat Anshe Emet – formerly the Anshe Emeth Adult Volunteer No Ringer Choir.

He and his wife Dana have been members of Anshe Emeth for more than 40 years. They were married here and their girls were named in the sanctuary and became b’not mitzvah here. Ricky worked as a pharmacist for 45 years and is the author of “Monitor the World”, a hobbyist’s manual on scanner radios.

Rabbi Esther Reed

Rabbi Esther Reed is the Associate Director for Jewish Campus Life at Rutgers University Hillel. She attended Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, graduating cum laude with a degree in Judaic Studies.

She received both rabbinic ordination and a master’s degree in Jewish women’s studies from the Jewish Theological Seminary in 2001. While at JTS, Rabbi Reed was a recipient of the prestigious Wexner Graduate Fellowship. Read more...

Professor Nathan Reiss

Nathan Reiss is a resident of Highland Park and has been engaged in the study of genealogy for over 35 years. In 1980, he authored a book on his own family history, and has recently updated it with a new 1,100 page edition.

In 1997, he became Chairman of the Genealogy Committee of the Jewish Historical Society of Central Jersey; in 2002 he was elected Vice President and from 2003 to the present he has served as President of the Society. From 1996 to 2001 he also served as President of Congregation Etz Ahaim, a Sephardic congregation in Highland Park.

Ruth Patt

Ruth Patt grew up in New Brunswick, NJ and graduated from Douglass College of Rutgers Univeristy. She founded the Jewish Historical Society of Central Jersey in 1977, and has organized the Jewish American Lecture Series for 11 years.

She is the author of four books, including The Jewish Scene in New Jersey’s Raritan Valley, the Jewish Experience at Rutgers, and Uncommon Lives: 18 Extraordinary Jews from New Jersey. Mrs. Patt chaired the celebration of New Brunswick’s 300th Birthday in 1980. Read more...

Rabbi Bennett F. Miller

Rabbi Bennett F. Miller, a native of Rochester, N.Y., is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati. He earned a Master of Arts and Hebrew Letters from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati where he was ordained a Rabbi in 1974. He also earned his doctorate from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1988. In March, 1999 he was awarded a Doctor of Divinity Degree from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. In 2008 Rabbi Miller completed a Certificate in Fund Raising at the George Heyman Center for Non-Profit Management and Fund Raising at New York University. Read more...

Dr. Mark Kligman

Dr. Mark Kligman is a professor of Jewish Musicology at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York. Educated at New York University and California State University. He earned his doctorate in Musicology with an emphasis on Ethnomusicology at NYU in 1997. Read more...

Harvey Hauptman

Harvey Hauptman is a long time member of Anshe Emeth. He served as First Vice President, as well as an officer and member of the Board of Trustees. He acts as moderator of the Temple’s annual Yom Kippur Interim service and bi-ennial Consultation on Conscience.

He is vice president of the Jewish Historical Society of New Jersey and lectures on the subject of sports and media matters. Read more...

Howard Green

Howard L. Green started Public History Partners in the summer of 2005. His clients include museums, historical organizations, government agencies, and individuals. Howard’s larger projects in the last few years include: a recent history of the Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, and a history of public school construction in New Jersey, which is nearing completion. Rabbi Arnold Gluck

Rabbi Gluck has served as rabbi of Temple Beth-El of Hillsborough, New Jersey, since 1991. He was among the founders of the Interfaith Hospitality Network for the Homeless of Union County and Somerset County.

He has served on the CCAR Conversion Committee and remains a member of the CCAR Task Force on the Challenge of Intermarriage for the Reform Rabbi, and the URJ/CCAR Joint Commission on Outreach and Synagogue Community. Read more...

Rabbi Rebecca Epstein

We are delighted to welcome Rabbi Rebecca Epstein to our Temple community. She comes to us having recently completed her studies at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York City. While attending HUC-JIR she received numerous prizes for her scholarship and excellence. She was ordained in June 2009 at Temple Emanuel in New York.

Dr. Joseph Cohn

Joseph Cohn, MD who grew up at Anshe Emeth and had both his bar mitzvah and confirmation here, is in solo practice of Family Medicine in Highland Park.

His twenty-five year practice includes patients ranging in age from newborns to centenarians. He is a senior attending physician at RWJUH and St. Peter’s University Hospital, and is also a Clinical Asistant Professor at both UMDNJ and Drexel University School of Medicine. Read more...

Mark Busch

Mark and his wife, Frankie, have been members of Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple and of Congregation Ahavas Achim for many years.

Mark practices law with his brother and five cousins at Busch and Busch, LLP in North Brunswick, a full-service family law firm founded in 1927. He successfully litigated to gain zoning permission for both Rabbi Pesach Raymon Yeshiva and Ahavas Achim to establish and expand their buildings. Read more...

Rabbi Eric Wisnia

Rabbi Wisnia has served as rabbi of Congregation Beth Chaim in Princeton Junction, New Jersey, since 1977.

Rabbi Wisnia formerly participated in the Institutional Review Board for Medical Ethics of the Medical Center at Princeton, where he currently serves on the Committee on Religious Ministries at the Medical Center.

Additionally, Rabbi Wisnia served as President of the New Jersey Association of Reform Rabbis and as President of the Windsor Hightstown Area Ministerium.
